Energy storage pioneers
Battery energy storage
We have been installing batteries in homes and off-grid sites since 2019, and since 2024 we have been developing storage solutions for industry. Every system is sized with our own precise and intuitive calculation method and run by an independently developed EMS that manages the whole installation.
From 25-40% to 50-75% self-sufficiency
Self-sufficiency is the share of your annual consumption covered by your own solar energy. A battery stores daytime surplus for use when the sun is not shining.
Typical ranges on our installations. The exact value depends on your consumption profile and is calculated in each study.
- 2019 First batteries in homes and off-grid sites.
- 2024 Storage solutions for industry and our own EMS.
What a battery is for
- Use the solar surplus that is lost today, especially on zero-export systems.
- Cover night-time and early-morning consumption with solar energy produced during the day.
- Shave power peaks, avoid excess-power charges and reduce contracted capacity.
- Shift consumption to the most expensive tariff periods (P1 to P6 on Spanish 3.0TD and 6.1TD tariffs).
- Keep critical processes running during a grid outage.
- Power farms, wineries and buildings without a grid connection.
A precise and intuitive calculation method
We do not size a battery with rules of thumb. Our calculation tool, developed in-house by ALRO Solar, starts from your site's real hourly load profile over a full year and simulates, hour by hour, solar production, battery charging and discharging, and the energy price in each tariff period.
Real data
A full year of hourly consumption data from the grid operator, plus your current bill.
Hour-by-hour simulation
Solar output, surplus, battery state of charge and the periods of your tariff.
Configuration comparison
Different battery capacities and inverter sizes, with or without extra solar, until we find the right fit.
Clear result
Recommended capacity, energy used and impact on your bill, set out in an easy-to-read report.
Our own EMS: full control of the system
Every installation includes an independently developed EMS (energy management system), not tied to any battery manufacturer. It talks directly to the bidirectional inverter, the battery management system (BMS) and the meter, and decides at every moment how energy is used.
- Battery charging and discharging based on solar output, consumption and tariff period.
- Zero export: controls grid injection when the site is not allowed to export.
- Peak shaving to stay within contracted capacity.
- Battery health monitoring, alarms and data logging.
- Remote monitoring of the whole installation.
- Compatible with different battery and inverter manufacturers.
New or existing installations
We add batteries to existing solar systems, AC-coupled and without replacing the solar inverters, or design a complete solar-plus-storage system from scratch. Solutions are modular and can be expanded later. We work with leading manufacturers such as Sungrow and SL Energy.
Who benefits most
Night-time consumption
Food industry, cold storage and frozen food, poultry farms, logistics, hotels.
Power peaks
Machine start-ups, production lines, wastewater plants, EV charging points.
Excess-power charges
Sites paying penalties or unable to increase capacity on a saturated grid.
Solar surplus
Zero-export systems or sites where surplus energy earns little.
Off-grid sites
Farms, wineries, reservoirs and isolated buildings.
Homes
Residential self-consumption with more autonomy and backup power.
Frequently asked questions
Can batteries be added to an existing solar system?
Yes. The storage system is AC-coupled, in parallel with the existing installation, with no need to replace the solar inverters. We first study the production and consumption data to size it.
How is battery size calculated?
From a full year of real hourly consumption data, simulating solar output, the battery and tariff periods hour by hour. Capacity therefore matches your actual use, not a generic estimate.
What does the EMS do?
It is the brain of the system: it talks to the inverter, the batteries and the meter, and decides at every moment when to charge, when to discharge and how much energy to draw from or export to the grid, based on production, consumption and tariff.
Do the batteries work during a power cut?
Yes, if the system is designed with a backup function: it powers the defined critical loads during the outage. We assess this in the study depending on the chosen equipment.
How much does a battery increase self-sufficiency?
On our installations, self-sufficiency (the share of annual consumption covered by your own solar energy) is typically 25-40% with solar PV alone and 50-75% with a battery. The exact value depends on the consumption profile and is calculated in each study.
Which businesses benefit most from storage?
Those that consume at night or early in the morning, have power peaks or pay excess-power charges, have solar surplus or zero-export systems, or have tariffs with large price gaps between periods.
